Welcome to Room #4!

I began my teaching career as a kindergarten teacher at Collegewood Elementary back in 1995!  This is my fourteenth year at Vejar. I was part of the original teaching team that created and implemented the Walnut Valley Transitional Kindergarten program.  Prior to teaching TK I taught Kindergarten as well as a year in First Grade and three years teaching Music Keyboarding in first through third grade. I received a Bachelor of Science and my multiple subject teaching credential at Cal Poly Pomona and a Masters in Early Childhood Education Leadership at Ashford University. My husband, Jerry Knox, is the AP Geography teacher at Walnut High School. Both of our children attended school in the WVUSD at Vejar Elementary, Suzanne Middle School and Walnut High School.

Who will help? We will!

Our class has been reading different versions of the classic story, "The Little Red Hen".  The children love to be helpful and responsible like the hen. The past two weeks we learned all about wheat and spent a day making bread. After thoroughly washing our hands, we all helped to mix the ingredients, knead the dough, form the dough into balls and, while the bread baked in roaster ovens right inside our classroom, we shook cream to make butter! If you would like to try this wonderful, messy and delicious fun at home, you can find our bread recipe by clicking "kindergarten recipes" to the right side of this page. I hope that your child will tell you about the different parts of wheat and some of the things that are made from wheat. Most importantly, I hope when you ask at home, "Who will help me....?" Your child will happily answer, "I will!"
